The Best Place to Make Treasured New Memories

by Bonnie Schock

Thank you Minnesota! The Sheldon Theatre was recently honored with two awards that recognize regional excellence in the performing arts. First, the organization was presented with the prestigious Ardee Award for “Outstanding Greater Rochester Arts” by the Greater Rochester Arts and Cultural Trust. Then, we were thrilled to be voted Best Place for Live Music as well as Best Theatre in southern Minnesota by the readers of SouthernMinn Scene.

We are so proud of these awards. It’s truly special to be acknowledged as a significant contributor to the cultural life of the entire region. Most importantly, we are thrilled that people value the role the Sheldon continues to play, after 113 years, in our city’s day to day life…shaping new memories and building relationships through the transformative power of the performing arts.

This November, the Sheldon demonstrates that excellence with international, national, and local music of all varieties plus great local theatre in the finest venue you could ask for. This month alone we bring you Israeli music ensemble Sofi and the Baladis; Minnesota music’s now famous traveling Caravan du Nord; Minneapolis sound music legends The Suburbs; a hilariously haunted comedy with one wife too many, Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward, produced by our very own community theatre company, Phoenix Theatre; and locally grown big band sound with Sheldon Theatre Brass Band’s annual holiday concert.

The readers of the Southern Minn Scene are right. It’s absolutely the best place for live music, the best theatre, and we also believe the Sheldon is simply the Best Place to Make Treasured New Memories.
