“…breaks all the rules of theater.” – DC Metro
“Like all good happy hours, this one has plentiful munchies and libations. And like the best ones, it offers abundant laughter.” – The New York Times
This immersive dance-theater show finds the cringe-worthy humor and life-changing pathos in an after work get-together. Two men, played by women, attempt to bluster and seduce their way through an office party, with hilarious and poignant results. It’s a subversive move, leading audiences to question expectations of women on stage with a free drink in their hands and microwave popcorn flying through the air.
Founded in 1997, Monica Bill Barnes & Company is a contemporary American dance company that brings dance where it does not belong. They create and produce each work entirely from its own rulebook, and within each new context and borrowed environment, they find humor in humanity’s awkward, everyday triumphs and failures. Since its premiere in 2015, Happy Hour has performed all over the world in various settings, from a barn in upstate New York to a villa in Italy, and now comes to a studio space in Red Wing, MN.
This special, site-specific event is performed in the Sheldon’s 3rd-floor studio. The events runs approximately 60 minutes, and space is limited to 50 audience per showing.
