Pat Donohue & Friends

November 19 @ 3:00 pm

- $19 – $35

Pat played on and wrote music for the show, A Prairie Home Companion, for almost 20 years.

Chet Atkins called Pat one of the greatest fingerpickers in the world today; Leo Kottke called his playing “haunting.”

Grammy winning fingerpicker Pat Donohue’s devotion to acoustic guitar has made him an American standard, as he echoes the tones of Robert Johnson, Blind Blake, Merle Travis or Muddy Waters. A versatile guitarist’s guitarist, Pat enjoys entertaining fans with intricate fingerpicking, easy wit, and nimble interpretations of old blues, swing, R&B and original tunes.

For over twenty years Pat was the lead guitar player and songwriter for the “Guy’s All Star Shoe Band” on the NPR favorite A Prairie Home Companion. Pat is now touring the US playing a variety of venues including performance Halls, Coffeehouse series and in blues, folk and eclectic listening rooms. Pat also conducts guitar workshops and teaches at prestigious guitar camps across the country.

Joined by: Three decades plus musician PK Mayo (Paul K. Mayasich) holds his rightful place in both the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame and the Minnesota Rock & Country Hall of Fame. He is noted guitarist both on acoustic and electric slide, having been inspired at an early age from Duane Allman’s solo on “Statesboro Blues.” That inspiration has carried him to stages worldwide as he continues to gig (in non-pandemic times) at a rate of 200+ shows a year.

Texas native and recent Minnesota transplant Richard Kriehn now plays mandolin and fiddle in A Prairie Home Companion’s house band, The Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band, which is the current house band and has been since 1993. The show makes good use of Kriehn’s experiences in playing a wide variety of musical genres.

John Wright first made his mark in the Minnesota Music scene in 1989 where his versatility on the bass found him onstage with Pop Fusion/New Age guitarist Billy McLaughlin as well as his own Progressive rock band US, who’s debut recording made the cover of the College Music Journal. As the years ensued John found himself in many different musical environment’s from Blues and Soul legend Mick Sterling to a four year run with Minnesota Pop star Tim Mahoney. In 1999, he found time to form the critically acclaimed Celtic/American Folk-Rock trio Lehto and Wright, still active to this day.
