“Ten Thousand Things produces this community’s finest Shakespeare” —Minneapolis Star Tribune
The Winter’s Tale is an epic and magical story of loss and redemption, renewal and forgiveness. The characters—some with privilege, some without—populate a kingdom governed by the universal laws of justice and love. A diverse cast, led by Shá Cage and Steven Epp, will play roles of the opposite gender, letting some of the region’s best actors play atypical roles and audiences see themselves reflected on stage in new ways.
The critically acclaimed Twin Cities company, Ten Thousand Things, is known nationally for its groundbreaking approach to classic works. At Ten Thousand Things performances, audiences experience theater in its most vital, elemental form. There is no stage; rather, the company performs on the floor inside a circle of chairs, with all the lights on so everyone can see each other, with minimal sets and live music. The result is a performance that engages the imagination, and heightens theatricality. Through this dynamic exchange, artists and audience breathe new life into theater together reminding us that theater is essential to all of our lives.
This special event will be performed with audience seated onstage in the round, with limited available seating, in Ten Thousand Things’ signature style, as the action unfolds inside a circle of audience chairs with all the lights on.
This event is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
