Sheldon Youth Centerstage

In the spotlight because of Red Wing Area Fund

The Sheldon Theatre is excited to announce the launch of Sheldon Youth Centerstage, a new youth theatre program designed to inspire creativity, confidence, and connection in young performers, along with the appointment of Jordyn Foss as Youth Theatre Arts Director.

A key part of making this new initiative possible is the generous support of the Red Wing Area Fund. Their mission is to imagine, develop, and initiate projects that enhance the character and quality of life in Red Wing beyond the reach or ability of existing agencies and resources. This investment plays a vital role in launching and sustaining Sheldon Youth Centerstage, helping ensure that young people in the Red Wing area have meaningful access to high-quality theatre education and performance opportunities. This support reflects a strong community commitment to the arts and to youth development in the region.

“We are incredibly grateful for the Red Wing Area Fund’s support,” said Shantel Dow, Executive Director. “Their partnership allows us to expand access to arts education and create a program that will serve young people for years to come.”

Jordyn Foss, originally from Colorado, brings a strong background in theatre and education to her new role. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre & Speech Education and a master’s degree in Theatre Pedagogy. She is a director, actor, and dedicated arts educator with a passion for inclusive, student-centered theatre experiences.

Most recently, Foss served as Performing Arts Director at the Paramount Center for the Arts, where she curated performances and supported a wide range of artists. She also serves on the board of the Minnesota Presenters Network, working to strengthen collaboration among arts organizations across Minnesota.

“I’m thrilled to join the Sheldon and help bring this program to life,” said Foss. “Theatre gives young people a chance to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others in powerful ways. I can’t wait to get started.”

Sheldon Youth Centerstage serves students ages 9–18 and will offer year-round opportunities including:

  • Fall play or musical sessions
  • Spring play or musical sessions
  • Summer theatre camps and workshops (July–mid August)

Each session provides a supportive environment where students explore acting, movement, and storytelling. Whether they are brand new to theatre or continuing to build their skills, participants are encouraged to take creative risks, collaborate, and grow both on and off the stage.

Summer camps offer flexible, engaging experiences for a range of ages and experience levels. Younger students focus on imagination and creative play, while older students develop deeper performance skills including character work, improvisation, and ensemble building.

With strong community support and youth theatre director in place, Sheldon Youth Centerstage is poised to become a vibrant home for youth arts education in Red Wing—helping young people discover their voices and shine on stage.
