A Party Like it’s 1989:
House Party Recap
It was a party like it was 1989! We had so much fun and made so many great new memories together as we launched the Sheldon’s 2019-2020 season with an 80s blowout Open House Party. There were leg warmers, off-the-shoulder tops, and lots of big hair as we all came down with a case of late ‘80s nostalgia.
“During last season’s Grand Reopening celebration, the House Party was so much fun, everybody told us we had to do it again,” said Executive Director Bonnie Schock. “It was a new way to experience this special place. So this year, we decided to honor our late 80s rebirth, and we paid homage to both the music and the culture we were living in when the Sheldon was first renovated 30 years ago.”
Here are a few highlights and memories from the evening, which encompassed the entire building, and featured live performance sets by Brat Pack Radio and Minneapolis sound pioneer Tina and the B-sides!

Tube man selfies were a popular activity for all ages!
Tasty local appetizers provided by Liberty’s, Staghead Gastropub, Red Wing Brewery, Bleu Dog Café, and Stockholm Pie and served up by members of Red Wing High School’s Performing Arts Club. Yum!
Friends of the Sheldon board members hosted a feisty Cake Walk that had folks scrambling for baked goods.
Brat Pack Radio of Minneapolis started off the night’s live entertainment with cover tunes from all the great 80s bands we love.
Dance, dance, dance! All night long, the dance floor was on fire.
Dressed in her Red Wing boots, Tina Schlieske of Tina and the B-sides put on an incredible show that we will not soon forget.
Our best dressed 80s style contest winner and Sheldon Board member, Chap Achen Jr., went all out with the retro fashion fun.
The kids kept busy with classic board games, vintage Atari, and more in the 80s basement.
There was laughter, fun, family, and friendship for all ages.
At the Friends of the Sheldon Only after-party, there were some karaoke songs for the record books!
